Heres the thing fellas---

Jag buyers and BMW buyers are usually somewhat different. Yes there are people who own both but in those cases they are owned for different purposes.

Jags have always been wonderfully styled---inside and out----although before ford they had their share of problems (common to english cars) and are now accused of being bland because of ford---while i do agree that the x-type doesnt scream JAG like an XK-8...i dont think anyone, BMW fan or not will tell you that the XK180 or the f-type look like fords! jag owners often prefer an auto transmission...which is fine if thats what you like---

BMW on the other hand have often had less aesthetically pleasing interiors but are better suited for driving based on balance, transmission, engine, etc----

both brands have problems---BMW is having huge issues with the s54 engine and SMG while i know jag is having some problems with the x-type...

anyway...i have a close friend who is 25 and owns 9 jaguars and i have driven many of them...including an x-type 3.0 manual---while i appreciated the interior (except for the cheap plastic parking brake handle), i was less impressed by the clutch feel and road feel....but for some others im sure it is perfect

personally i prefer bmw because of their design and philosophy---however...as a true auto enthusiast i respect what jag is doing (introducing manuals...trying to race) and hope that x-type owners and 3 series owners will be happy with what they have and not create an unnecessary rivalry--

as an owner of an m-coupe...there are MANY who think my car is ugly, worthless...whatever...i didnt buy it for anyone but myself (not even the ladies ;) ) and in the end thats all that matters

does that mean the 5-speed manual comes from barcelona?

(continuing on the basil thread)

Gentlemen, gentlemen (and yes that's a stretch)... Before the level of indentation goes way off to the right of my screen, suffice it to say that no one here is going to be successful in convincing the other that they own 'the wrong car'. If you're an x-type owner giving negative feedback on the x-type, then the rest of us will review it in order to compare it with our own experiences. If you own something else and make the same statements, even if true, they're likely to be ignored or considered the envious ramblings of a Jag wannabee. That's just human nature. It is entirely appropriate for a non-Jag owner to openly ask for feedback about a negative opinion that they have heard elsewhere in order to consider the general opinion of actual owners. You won't be burned at the stake for that. I do, however, strongly urge people to take their creative writing skills, amusing use of the '$' character, and descriptive visuals of the smallest Jag being inserted into even smaller body orifices off-line.
As for the Germans, don't mention the war. I did once but I think I got away with it! (Basil Fawlty for those of you into obscure cinematic references...).

I got nothing against BMW just their owners posting under whole bunch of names and commenting on a car they have no ACTUAL experience with.

Well Clyde is actually my name. ROFL isn’t much of a name is it?

Your "funny story" might be funny if you actually knows anything about the car. Actually i think you do KNOW A BIT ABOUT OUR CARS, you're just jealeous that is stronger structurally, looks better, better with the women, keeps up and carry more panche than your BMW.

I don’t know how your car is with the women, but I leave mine in the garage. If a woman was after me because of my car, I would avoid her. (also - I am not jealous of anyone who doesn’t know how to spell ‘jealous’ or ‘panache’)

But, let me guess anyway....you are one of those that was in the market for a new car, but turn away due to Jaguar is now owned by Ford, never test drove the car and expected the worse. It now bug you that the car turned out to be a excellent car and instant winner. Tell me if i'm too far off.

Excellent car? Instant winner? Based on what? X-type quality is terrible, Jaguar is unresponsive, reviews are mixed, and much better cars are out there. The G35 is the first car in a long time that has the potential (once the 6-speed version is released) to unseat the 3 series. No one even considers the X-type to be a contender…
