The rest of the world knows this and is laughing. Did nobody learn a thing from the Cadillac Cimarron? Would a Ford Focus with wood and cat badges be a 'real' jag Y type?

You obviously don't know anything about platform sharing. If you must, think of building a house, the platform the is the foundation of a house being built. It only define the sizes, shape and dimensions of the house it does not tell you how well a plumbing, electric, water, sewer etc. will work. You should also know that the Mondeo is a very good car and has received rave reviews in Europe. And Jaguar engineers improved on every aspects of the car, that's why the X-type is 30% stronger structurally than the PREVIOUS class leader BMW 3-series.
If the X-type keeps up with the BMW, the class leader in looks outside and in, stronger than the BMW structually, comes with better materials and standard equipments, and could carry more cargo.....the x-type is a more than a genuine Jaguar, then wouldn't that make the 3-series be more Ford like, more Chevy like, more VW like, more Yugo like. Ford owns and revived Jaguar, but Ford is not Jaguar.
