there are two phones (i discussed with dealer when ordering my car as i needed at&t).

When I was asking a while back, the dealers told me there was only one phone, so either Jag added one since or the dealers were wrong. (There would be a shock.)

Either way, I am a little suprised they bothered to make both flavors, as the phones are unique to Jag, and thus require some ammount of extra effort that must be offset in cost. $1,650 is quite a lot of offset for just a cell phone, but still I wonder how many phones they expect to sell? If even 2% of X-types are sold with a phone, how many units would that be? Figure 60% are CDMA and 40% TDMA. How many of each? Hmmmm.... Well, I guess for $1650, I would offer to hand-solder the chips into each phone myself.

you can find detailed specs on carpoint.com and autosite.com.

Thanks, reading them now.

Carpoint is a joke. Autosite has much better info, but I had to dig to finally find the stuff you were talking about.

Still annoying that we must go to other sources to pull this info.

The us.jaguar.com site doesn't even list the phone as an option. (Though, I do notice that the sunroof is now all by itself as some people wanted.)

The x-type.com site lists the phone as a part of JaguarNet -- NOT as a cell phone option. No details there either.

---------------

But either way the phone seems like a waste of money. It wasn't too long ago that the only in-car phones one could get were analog. This is *after* CDMA had been rolled out for a while (which was after TDMA). How would you like to spend $1500 on a 150$ phone, and only have it be outdated long before your car has reached its first birthday? ATT already has minor GSM coverage, and it looks like they expect GPRS/GSM to replace their existing service. And what about the other carriers? As the shift to 3G (2.5G or whatever) occurrs that means one's existing phone is worthless. I can throw away 10 years of the latest/greatest phone for the cost of one Jag Phone.

Oooo... so you can dial on the console. Big deal. Get a phone with VAD. Much better. And I don't really think that a car install will give one much more than spending 10$ on an earbud (or 40$ on a good headset) to get the same functionality. At least an earbud can be used in places that aren't the Jag. (I know, I know: Who would want to leave their Jag? But, sometimes, one must.)
