Thanks for the response. When I refer to the "Traction Control" session of the manual, it says if wheel is slipping during acceleration (often by the ABS sensors), Traction Control will lower the engine power and apply the brake to the slipping wheel to gain the traction back. Thus, it doesn't sound like it's the AWD system X-type has since the AWD simply transferS the torque from the rear to the front if slippage is mechanically detected. Actually, I really want to know if "Traction Control" is available or even included along with the DSC.

Traction control is included in DSC. Basically, DSC detects and corrects when the car is slipping sideways; Traction control only detects when a wheel spins faster than the others during acceleration only and corrects by reducing the throttle.

DSC (and traction control) only kick in when tire slippage occurs; the yellow light in the speedo cluster will illuminate (with no message I believe) whenever either is activated. There is no harm leaving this "on" full-time.

I also leave the DSC on all the time. What it does is simply to ensure turning angle of the car does correspond to what the driver wants. It will brake the appropriate wheel independently to generate a counter-torque in case of understeer or oversteer automatically. Thus, I don't believe it will hurt the fuel economy, acceleration or brake life.

However, when I read my X-type manual (mind is the 2.5), they mention "Traction Control" along with the stability control. Does it mean "Traction Control" is included if our car is equipped with "Stability Control"?

I have posted this once before, but got no response...
In what way does the stability control hurt/help acceleration? Fuel economy? Brake life? I drive around with mine on all the time...is there a chance that this could hurt it???

Thanks in advance

DSC is a safety feature that will only activate when the wheels are about to skid. DSC-Dynamic Stability Control keeps the car stable in hard cornering, not in o-60 take off. DSC basically keeps the car from sliding side ways. DSC is not traction control. The traction control on the X-type is built into the all wheel drive feature and CANNOT be turned off; hence, all X-types have traction control, while DSC is optional.
