Bill,
I have a Sony changer in my Miata. The control is in the glove box and it also has a remote control about 2" x 3" and about 1/8" thick. The problem with the remote is it is line of sight not radio so you need to leave the glove box open or tacked with Velcro outside the glove box (tacky) or hanging out of the glove box (tackier). The reception is good and I live with it because there was no other option when the car first came out. The good thing is that I also have a single play cd in the Bose radio along with the cassette.
Based on above experience, I got my X with eh premium sound. I am well pleased with it (and the car).
