Where do you come up with this stuff? This is flat out not true. While I would agree that on some cars a front plate detracts from the vehicle's appearance, I do not believe for one second that this is would even be an issue with anyone else in the world except for, perhaps you. No dealer is going to care about this and few if any customers would raise this as a concern. And, how are you going to get a car from the factory, give it a ring and say I'm coming by to pick a car up?

Where did you ever get the idea that mounting a front licence plate causes a loss of value for an automobile? I defy you to show us any major source, eg.: Kelley's Blue Book, Edmund's, etc, that reduces the value on cars that have a front licence plate on it.

Secondly, assuming for the sake of argument that there is a potential loss of value, do you really think dealer's care one whit such that they would refuse to mount a licence plate frame? The loss (if any) is yours, not theirs.

In most states, by law, the selling dealer has to provide all the mounting hardware for license plates.

In many states, by law, the selling dealer has to affix the plates to the vehicle.

The time has come to mount my new license plates that the DMV sent me. No problem with the rear one but the front license plate bracket was not mounted on my bumper. So the dilemma is this: There are (3) holes on the bracket but no holes on the bumper. I noticed that there is a center divot on my bumper where the center hole on the bracket can possibly align with. So for all you x-type owners who have had the same obstacle, do I really have to drill holes in my bumper or are there holes just under the enamel coating of the bumper that I am not aware of?

Thanks all.

The front plate law is enforced on Jaguar, Rolls Royce and Bentleys etc..

Dealers don't want to devalue the car because MOST owners don't want the plates mounted and if dealers did it car buyers would by their cars elsewhere or order a new car from the factory. Once you drill those holes, their is no going back. A dealer will only devalue your car if you demand him to do it.

In the olden days this was not an issue because cars came with the plates mounted due to dealer prep. Because modern styles, most owners don't want their cars to look ugly. I have ordered cars from the factory and requested that the dealer NOT attach ANY plate to the car. Again, once you drill into the plastic, there is no going back. Why do you think car shows almost never display cars with front plates. Imagine an XK8,F-type, XJ, or a Ferrari with an ugly front plate. Why do you think the police don't enforce this law upscale car owners. Once you own a Jag, you belong to a elite class and you are above the law. Take the time an accept your new status !!!!
