The xenon lights featuring self levelling have mechanical arms attached to both the front and rear suspension. The position of the arm is coverted to an elecrical signal and fed to the headlamp levelling module located in the left hand A post. When you see the lights 'dip and rise', this is the system self checking the upper and lower limits. The module is also linked to the speed signal - So at lower speed the system adjusts slowly in larger increments (like over speed bumps) , while at cruising speeds it adjusts quickly in smaller amounts (so you don't blind oncoming traffic). Hope this helps. Enjoy your car!
