Obviously John is making this decision more based on his neighbor's impression about him as a "dad" than his son's needs as a developing adult.

My town is full of these people that worry constantly what their peers will think if their kid shows up at school with a leser car than the neighbor's kid.

JOHN: If you have enough money to entertain these cars, do yourself and your son a HUGE favor.

Buy him a cheap car now and spend the difference taking him to someplace like New Zealand for a month of adventure hiking, boating and climbing. The time you spend together would be irreplaceable for both you and your son.

He will never forget something like that.

When you lay dying, he will talk to you about that summer.

The car?? He will forget the car as soon as he crashes it.

I currently drive an S type and I have had a few problems with it but nothing major. My only child, a son, is graduating from high school this June and I would like to suprise him with another car this time a Jaguar X-type but I would like to know if you think a 17 year old would look appropriate in a Jaguar. My wife and I have been looking at cars and we're hooked on the x-type or a boxster.
