As long as neither you nor I, own the server or maintain this forum, we should be willing to abide by the rules aet out by Alan, the moderator.

No need to explain property rights to me! ;)

But I have checked the FAQ and there seems to be no guidelines posted as to appropriate content nor as to moderation. As I mentioned in my first post, the site is presented as an open discussion with no restrictions on postings. (Anonymous Cowards allowed, etc.)

But you miss my point. I was making a much broader argument and using comment deletion to illustrate it.

Posts that have differing opinions, or provide an alternate point of view are both welcome and educational, in my opinion. However, comments that are obviously meant only to provoke anger, and without having any material content, does not have a place on this board.

Well, what is educational? Some of the best trolls I have seen are actually fairly informative. (Think: Socratic Gadfly) Some are just sophomoric or juvenile. How do you draw the line? Sarcasm can be an effective tool of communication, but to those that never scratch beyond the surface the comments might just be taken as lacking all substance.

But, my biggest objection, is that these comments are part of the historical record. To delete them doesn't undo their creation, but perpetuates that modern delusion/deception of historical revisionism.

I applaud the moderator in his desire to maintain an atmosphere of sanity and mature expression of ideas.

I too am pleased with the owner of the board putting his time and effort into this project. Notice that I hesitate to call him a "moderator" because there is NOTHING that indicated that this is a moderated board, aside from this thread/discussion. I have occasionally seen comments disappear, but I doubt any casual observer or lurker would ever of had that impression.

But please keep in mind that just because I dislike the idea that comments would be deleted, doesn't mean that I am in favor of the comments. I'm sure most of them are id10Ts or 14 year-olds with too much time, but I still think it is better for the thinking reader to be able to make that decision themselves.

I do thank you for your response Mike. I realize this thread really isn't about the car we both love so much, but, hey! I didn't bring it up in the first place and sometimes things like this just need to be said. :)
