For years and years bmw drivers have had the reputation of being jerks. So far, I have seen little to dispell the sterotype.

1) Performance specs. They vary dramatically, depending on the weather, the course, the driver, what the driver had for lunch, and the mileage on the car. One set of specs is meaningless, while multiple sets is only slightly better. BMW traditionally understates their stats, by the way.

Besides, anyone interested in performance who buys a BMW doesn't get the xi model. The Jag has AWD because it's essentially a front wheel drive car that can't handle the power. The same holds true of the Audi A4 3.0. AWD because the car wasn't designed properly.

2) Official Car of the Jerk. Talk about glass houses. Drive an Audi and make goofy claims like that, but a Jag? Please, the car of the guy who wants status over all else, and doesn't mind hanging out at the dealer while they install multiple drivetrains. BMW owners buy their cars because they're either a) status conscious or b) automotive enthusiasts, or a combination of the two. As I say, make a car that drives as well as a BMW and I'll buy it.

3) Financing. Mumbo jumbo numbers. BMW has this great deal called Euro Delivery, which drops the cost of a car by about 7-15%, depending on your ability to negotiate. That often flattens the debate on relative cost between luxury sedans. I recently picked up a 2002 330i with sport package, premium package and heated seats for $34k.

4) BMW. BMW just posted 2001 profits over 50% higher than the previous year. Don't expect them to go anywhere soon or the family owned majority shareholders to sell their stock to Volkswagen.

5) Ukraine. All BMW xi models are made in Regensburg, Germany.

Sad. Sad I say.
