Actualy, one of my concerns on getting the X is the variation of acceleration in magazine tests. Car and Driver had it at over 7 seconds in their latest comparison test of the 3.0 manual. Does Jag (Ford) guarantee their printed acceleration specs?
As for BMW, they are not made in Eastern Europe. Perhaps you are thinking of Audi which opened a factory there. The negative of BMW is how they try to duck expensive warranty claims with the German attitude of "our cars are theoreticaly perfect,if you have a problem it must be your fault", then a couple of years down the road they make engineering changes on new models to solve the problem that wasn't their fault.
By the way BMW considers burning a quart of oil every 750 miles on a new car within manufacturers specifications. If you don't believe me, have them put the oil consumption spec in your BMW purchase contract so you are guaranteed a fix if the oil consumption is greater. You won't be pleasantly surprised by their attitude.
Go check BMW performance specs and jaguar x-type specs. 6.9 (7.5) for a 330xi vs. the x-types 6.6(7.1) vs. the 330i 6.4 (7.0). plus the jaguar is 30% stiffer in the chasis. For all purposes the jaguar generally is faster than the BMW, and it is not the official car of the jerk. Not to mention buying a Jag is easier and cheaper than the bimmer. Hell we almost bought a $27,000 BMW a few years ago the lease they wanted was $460 a month 36month lease, our 3.0L Jag is around that price and is $10,000 more than the BMW. Thank god BMW doesn't own Rover any more as we leased one and they were unable to get that straight they managed to screw up payments and lost the check. BMW is not well run and could potentially get swallowed by Fords premier autogroup aka Jaguar-Astin Martin- Land Rover or Volkswagen. Hey at least the x is build in england, where as the BMW is built in the Ukraine, that is why their margins are so high. Once jaguar fixes some interior flaws aka ford parts in the interior the jag is the class leader.
