Choices are available, but they come with different logos on them. The fact is, the X-Type has as much acceleration as you need to enter freeways, stops well enough to keep you out of trouble and with all wheel drive, handles safely in bad weather conditions, all while providing a comfortable environment. You can find other cars that have better road test numbers, but for me, the overall package Jaguar has put together in the X-Type is the best compromise of the lot. You obviously don't agree, and that's fine. That's where the choice comes in. If you can be satisfied with a Saab, that's all that counts. By your own admission, the X-type does not offer everything you want. I'm sure that's a disappointment since you seem to like other aspects of the car. No car will give you everything you want. If the Saab, or BMW comes closest, go for it.Mike
You are misrepresenting most people on this board.
I didn't say "most" people on this board, I said "many". I stand by that statement because I've seen many comments similar to that of Gator Greg: "Personally I don't want everybody and his brother buying X-Types. As others have said, I enjoy the small bit of exclusivity owning a Jaguar brings."
Jaguar decided to only offer an automatic transmission, BMW decided only to offer a manual transmission. Jaguar tuned the suspension for a more compliant ride at the expense of handling, BMW tuned the suspension at the expense of ride. Different philosophies. Isn't that good?
Actually, consumer choice is better. If both cars came in your choice transmissions, your choice of suspension tuning philosophies, etc... we could all have exactly what we want. Like BMW's looks but wish it rode like a Jag - no problem. Like the Jag's looks but wish it accelerated like a BMW, no problem. Want AWD - no problem. Want RWD - no problem. Choice is best.
