However, there is no separate class of high performance large luxury sedans (i.e. no BMW M7, no Mercedes S-class with an AMG badge, etc...), so the XJR gets lumped in with the rest of the large luxury sedans, and leads that class in acceleration. It is actually cheaper than its competition as well as faster:) If I could get an X-Type R for the price of a 330i, I'd have no gripes (except that grey wood, of course).


there may be no M7, but there certainly is an AMG S55 (and although a coupe, a CL55). The XJ8 doesn't beat the S600 (or S500) in performance, or the BMW 7-series. The XJR beats the S600 and S55. As I said the X-Type R will compete with the AMG and M, the X-Type 3.0 fits nicely in between.
