I certainly agree that the X-Type is far & away the best looking car in the class - inside & out. Better looking than the S-Type, too - so much so that I'd be in a quandry if I could afford an S-Type: buy the S-Type or hold out for an eventual X-Type R (and swap out that grey wood when I get it). Lucky me - I can't afford either:)

I guess I'm more resigned to the 4Dr look than you, because I'd put the E46 3er sedan right after the coupe. I found the A4 kind of bland. The Infiniti is kind of an ugly duckling (especially interior), but fast. Acura TL Type-S is fast, but FWD and loaded with fake plastic wood (I couldn't live with that knowing there were X-Types on the same planet).

Test drove an IS 300 today - drives about like my E36 328i, but doesn't feel as solid as the European cars. Reminded me of feel of 1980's vintage Toyodas. I won't say I wouldn't have one, but it doesn't thrill me.

Probably the Jag wins as long as the dealer gives me a good offer and I can convince myself it isn't noticably slower than my 190 HP E36 328i. Better acceleration & BRG w/ Heritage Tan interior for 2003 would make it a shoe-in!

I have considered a certified used XK8 - according to Edmunds I could get a 3-4 year old one for about the same as a new X-Type. I suspect I'd garner the wifely veto on that idea:)
