Is this true???

While I understand the profit-driven motive for making the X1 package mandatory for any additional packages, it severely restricts my getting the car the way I want it.

I believe X1 is no longer required to get other packages. I was in my dealer a couple months ago and a salesman showed me a memo from Jaguar announcing (1) the X0 package which is just moonroof and fold-down rear seat; and (2) that X1 is no longer required for ordering any other options where X1 was previously required. You should double check this with your dealer.
