A perfectly valid solution - it just takes more horses to do it that way than with RWD. OK by me - I just don't want to have to choose between the X-Type's looks and the 330i's performance - I want both in the same car, and I think wads of potential buyers would agree. Actually the X-Type would do fine if only independent testing confirmed Jaguar's performance claims (they are only 0.1 second behind BMW's claims for the 330i with the same trany). Unfortunately, independant testing I've seen so far tends to confirm BMW's claims but not Jaguars.

The reason most of us buy the this car is due to the awd that comes standard for that price.

Perhaps true for the current crop of X-Type purchasers, but not for purchasers of this class of car in general. If it was, BMW would sell more 330xi's than 330i's and the Audi A4 Quattro would be the number one seller rather than BMW. The parking lot at work is sprouting 3ers like weeds, there's one A4, not a Jag yet.

This car already handle as well if not better than the 3 series, definately looks better, but lack the preformance numbers of the BMW. But then again, most of us who buy this car don't buy it for the preformance numbers. If i wants that i might as well buy a Corvette for about the same price as a x-type 3.0 or a BMW 330 with some options.

Actually, this class of car ("sports sedan") exists for people who need a 4Dr sedan for practical reason, want a luxury look, but wish they could have a sports car. If somebody could figure out how to make a car that looks like the X-Type, accelerates like the M3 and has a sticker price like a Lexus IS300 they'd be the number one seller overnight.
