Just a guess, but I assume Jaguar has to wait for their suppliers to redesign a faulty part, then begin production of that part, shipping, etc. The redesigned parts are incorporated at some point in the production run. Who knows when that point in time might be. It shouldn't have taken any time to incorporate the check valve in the windshield washer line since I believe the S-Type already has those installed. I can't imagine why the trunk lock redesign would take very long since every car made uses them and you don't hear of many other brands with trunk lock problems. The driveshaft is a much more complex item which will require the testing that should have been done before the X-Type's introduction. Also, if the comment about the issues being resolved came from a salesman, you know how much credibility that has!

I just picked up an X-type 3.0 with a production date of Dec 2001.
Appears that the leaky windshield fluid problem is still there. I thought I read a post earlier that a lot of the issues have been resolved by late 2001. I can't see how a January 2002 produced car be so different from a Dec 2001 car.
