Mike P has hit my feelings square on the head when he mentions that future buyers will be put off by the continuing customer development issues that plague the X type. To wit. I am in the market for a new car in May. I test drove a BMWXI and the X type to help me with my decision. While I realize new cars have some bugs/defects the willingness for Jaguar to let out the door cars that have not been updated with something as simple as a checkvalve for the windshield washers ,a known problem, before a customer takes delivery tells me that Ford is still not being forthright in offering the car for sale. I want a reliable car-one I don't have to take back to the dealer unless for scheduled service. (I understand the covered oil change for the x type is 10,000 miles!!I would never let it go that long. so I would end up paying $60+ dollars out of my own pocket two to three times before Jaguar would cover it.)
I never had these issues with Lexus or even Honda. Lexus covers the first service and it is very early in its service schedule.
I better end this by saying I am still looking at the x type but my gut feeling is it isn't ready for me.
Sorry this is so long.
Gene Thanks for your continuing updates as to the ongoing changes and new models. Sadly Jaguar needs to be much more organized and forthcoming concering existing problems on their current customers' cars before they ever hope to have repeat buyers. Potential customers who monitor this forum will have a major problem trusting that Jaguar has remedied these bugs in the newly produced cars when so many existing owners have had components replaced multiple times without success, or have their service departments deny a problem exists on their car. The X-Type has the potential to be a great car. It's time for Jaguar to give it the opportunity to become that and respond to these common problems with permanent fixes.
Mike
BRG not being replaced, new jaguar racing green coming soon MAY replace emerald nothing confirmed. As you can see on earlier posts problems are being worked on and are being fixed on newer cars. Remember it is a new car and problems will be ironed out, your faith will be rewarded in your future purchases when you will find real changes. New estate looks fantastic no pictures for you yet, will be on sale early 2003..
