It's a lifestyle thing.
As has been eloquently said earlier in this thread, only you can decide which model to get. Both the BMW and X-Type are fine cars but, contrary to some recent troll postings, BMWs break-down as well! Last year I drove down to Paris and the thermostat jammed in the fully open position. I nearly froze to death. On another occasion, I got into the car after a rainstorm to find the passenger foot well full of water. The local BMW agent (who has a superb reputation) had previously fixed a faulty window lift arm and forgot to replace the internal membrane. Despite that, I never thought that I would leave the BMW marque. Having said that, after seeing the new X-Type, I traded in my two year old 3 Series for a Jag. A major reason for switching is that 3 Series are almost as common as taxicabs in the UK. People often stop to look at my X-Type but never even glanced at my 3 Series. The BMW says that you are on your way, the Jag that you have arrived. The BMW has superb performance but I am past needing to prove that I am the fastest off the traffic lights!
If you feel you want to burn rubber and need to prove your manhood, buy the BMW. If you want to have a very comfortable vehicle that has the ‘poke’ to overtake when required buy the Jag. In conclusion, compare the positive posts from most Jag owners on this list and the illiterate rantings of ‘Bimmerboy’. Which set of individuals would you wish to be associated with?
