Here's some proof that the X-type still sucks.

I see in this report the Audi A4 came second. Well, there was a report on "Driven" where the X-type beat the Audi A4 and came second to the 3-series.

So it seems to me that most cars these days are very good (at this level) and small personal differences come into making the decision between best and second best.
