The customers I deal with, on high end cars, won't touch most cars out of warrenty(except for Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and MB) That is why resale value drops off dramatically after the warrenty. As enjoyable as these cars are to drive, from reading most of the posts, a lot of people don't know anybetter...this is there first upmarket car. They don't know they aren't supposed to have bugs and glitches...yes Jaguar is working hard to correct them and apease the customers, but when someone spent $40K plus a feew months ago for a bug ridden car vs $40K plus now for a car with fixes and updates, wouldn't you feel slighted?
Even as good as the XJ8 has become, it's resale value is still poor compaired to MB, Lexus, and BMW. This is because of the Brand. Resale value is set by people like me and what we are willing to pay for these cars at the auctions where Jaguar, MB, Lexus, etc bring there lease turn ins. I, like others in my profession know the dersireability of cars and what buyers want and will pay. I've seen MB's and Lexus models go for $1000's over our book value because of the Brand....in black and white...that is what it boils down too.

Most high end customers buy brand. Certain marques are associated with quality(or lack of).
So do you really think that all the happy drivers here are enjoing their X-Types just because they are made by Jaguar? I saw messages from people describing the fun that they have driving their car and their satisfaction which is growing every day (like I do) and it is related not just to the brand.
If you want just to make an investment I would not really buy a car!!
My impression was that the people here is not only devoted to the name on the trunk!!!
I am also fed up to see people with no arguments which can only say that it is just a mondeo or something like that to "fight" against the x-type.
Let be pragmatic.
