Most high end customers buy brand. Certain marques are associated with quality(or lack of).

A high end shopper who has done research and knows cars, wont cross shop a Lincoln with a Lexus, MB, of Jag or BMW.

On my end of the business, and it's reflected in reliability with desireability, Audi cars are junk...fun to drive, but electrical problems, tranny problems, very expensive. Jaguars have improved greatly...do in most part by the XJ8, MB's are always desirable as are Lexus dur too there bulitproof reputation. BMW's are mid pack depending on the car.

I have no problem selling a Lexus with over 100K on it for the lower teens(V8 powered Lexus cars).

So people should and do buy by Brand.

This months consumer report did a test of near luxury cars....the New A4 left them stranded....

The BMW is really refined quality. The jag is (i think now owned by GM) a slapped together response to bmw volvo and audi all wheel drive models. The Jag uses familiar GM platforms and off the shelf parts from GMs many suppliers. The only "heritage" here is the logo.

PLEASE, we are discussing about the car!! Do you really buy a car because it is a BMW or a Jag or a Audi? Try it and comment on it!!
This is really a stupid argument for discussion for people without any clue about cars but only judging brands!!
You have to drive the car when you buy it!! You will not spend all your time reading the brand on the body!!
