Many of us also chose the X-type because we like to drive, along with it's uniqueness and luxury. While there are some teething issues with the X-type, none have so far been nearly as serious as with the new BMW (E65) 7 Series. Read the posts on that forum and for BMW's flagship, especially for an $80-$90K price, you'd think the Quality Control would have been a lot better.

The X-type is not for everyone, but neither is the 330Xi. Both have distinct personalities, but compete in the same segment. We each have our favorites and that is what choice is all about. It's not necessary to degrade one to recommend the other. A potential purchaser should decide by driving both cars extensively, not by taking the advice of anyone on this forum who is biased in either direction.

Besides the fact that AWD and Dynamic stability control are standard on the 330xi, you really have to drive both to feel the differences. The x-type is attracting people based on its uniqueness and luxury aspects. The 3 series is a perennial favorite for people who love to drive.

Read the posts on this board over the last few weeks and you will see that people are having many problems with their new x-types. Many of the cars howl at modest speeds, all seem to have broken trunks, etc.

The AWD of the X-Type comes in real handy - certainly if you drive in snow, but also in rain. Also, the Dynamic Stability Control (option) adds to the stability. Personally, I will ONLY buy AWD vehicles.
