We who have chosen to purchase our X-types have done so for reasons that are personal to each of us. Some of these reasons might be the same and some are different. We can all supply a list to you, but if you make your decision to buy or not to buy based on our preferences, you will do yourself a disservice. The most important reason to buy a particular car over another, is because it meets YOUR criteria. Clearly define what's most important to you. Drive both cars extensively on familiar roads, check out the service departments of all the dealerships you will be purchasing from, read the E46 and X-Type forums religiously. There are good and bad points of both cars you listed, each has a very different personality, but overall both are excellent choices. Good luck.
