This was taken from a post on the Edmunds.com Town hall message board regarding the whining noise that so many of us are suffering from, a special thanks to Tom S. for this very useful information.... Evidently there is some kind of rubber bushing in the drive train that when the temperature gets below 40 F or so, it hardens and ultimately squeals (once it warms up, it stops squealing, which makes perfect sense). Jaguar didn't test the car sufficiently in colder climates (those damn British - as if an all wheel drive car wouldn't be popular in snowy/cold climates!). They have a new rubber bushing that is softer for colder climates. Hope this helps, I know I'm going to mention it when I take my car in for service on March 14th...
