The point of the feature is to improve safety when unlocking the car. If only the driver's door unlocks nobody else can jump into the car while you are getting in. This is supposed to be reassuring for women in dark, lonley car parks.

we had this feature in our last car (a VW Beetle) and all we found was that the battery in the key lasted half as long!

Good point. And with needing to press the remote twice to set the deadlocks I suppose it's even worse. Still, how much can a remote battery cost?
