Since the doors lock themselves when you drive off in any case, I don't see the point in having the feature

The point of the feature is to improve safety when unlocking the car. If only the driver's door unlocks nobody else can jump into the car while you are getting in. This is supposed to be reassuring for women in dark, lonley car parks.
