There is a company called Soundgate that make an adapter for the S Type. I e-mailed them and they say they are working on one for the X, but no ETA. This will allow a non Jaguar CD changer to be controlled in the same way as the Jag unit. Perhaps if everyone e-mails the same question they will get it to market sooner!!

if you buy a JAGUAR cd changer you'll be able to control it from the dash and CD buttons. A non-jaguar unit will not work, as the wiring is fiber optic, and nothing is compatible with it at this point

Does anyone know a good way to fix up the sound system? I got only the basic sound system with cassett only, but it says the car is pre-wired for CD changer. Does this mean if I go grab a Alpine CD changer and hook it up, I will be able to control the unit from the standard dash CD buttons??

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
