I have the same problem with my 2.5. manual, except I only hear it during acceleration. It only happens when the car is cold, it only lasts about a second or so, and it seems to come from underneath console/shifter. I have not reported it the dealership yet. The noise itself is kind of hard to describe, but its a cross between a whine and a soft howl. My car has about 1,200 miles on it. Problem has not gotten better or worse so far.
