I tried the freeway this morning with my X-type 3.0 auto Sport, and it averaged 29.0 mpg. I used cruise control (67 mph since we have tons of police here with the winter Olympics). The car had 3 people in it with associated sporting equipment and was running with the AC off.

I did the same thing last Sunday morning...one of our freeways has some small hills and one big hill...I also went on a two lane curvy road and my average was almost 30mpg. X-Type 2.5 Sport

I read a lot on here about poor gas mileage on the X-Type, so I did a little test.

I drove for an hour on the freeway and backroads from Burlington NC, to Holly Springs NC at an average of 65 miles per hour. It took around an hour, but the big thing was the mpg.

I averaged 32.4 mpg when I kept my speed constant, and tried conciously to not accelerate hard, or brake hard (hard to not crumble under the pressure to do so in the curves!!!).

That is good stuff. The guys putting 19 mpg for highway out here, and talking about rush hour, and they are dropping into 3rd at 50 mph...
