Does one really buy a car like this for pure acceleration? If that is the case i might as well buy a Corvette. I believe that the 325Ci or 325i might be a touch faster than the 2.5, but the x-type in better in the luxury categories. Which is why i chose the x-type or the 3-series. The 325Ci looks outdated but still looks pretty nice, but the 325i and 325xi looks odd(too short to have four doors). It looks like a midget, but instead of short arms and legs is has very narrow doors. If you look at it from the side you will know what i mean, plus you see one around every corner. If i have to guess why there are so many BMW owner on this board is because there have never been a car that match a BMW in every categories and better it in looks too.

According to the most recent test results in Car and Driver here is what they found (these articles are available online):

0-60 times
BMW 325i: 7.0 seconds (Jan 2001 C&D)
Jaguar X-type 3.0: 7.2 seconds (Feb 2002 C&D)

Note: the 325 beat the 3.0 x-type, so it sure as hell is faster than the 2.5 x-type!

Followup note: People here will attack these numbers. They will tell you C&D is biased, and that they don't know how to do road tests, blah, blah, blah. Believe whoever you want, but the 325 is faster. Go test drive it yourself.
