I had the same thing occur during a test drive at the W Hotel in Seattle. The car made hell of a noise and only just managed to limp it back around the block.

I still ended up buying one (although I purchased the 3.0L Manual)

Adam.

John,

It will be best to have your car checked out. In the meantime, have you tried turning off the car and restarting it? Let the car sit for about a half hour before restarting it. If it was just a glitch in your computer and not a fault in your transmission, the computer could reset itself and the light will go off. Keep us posted.

Mike

Dear Friends,

I just had my Jag X-Type 3.0 2 days ago...

I love it a lot...

A few minutes ago, I saw "Gear Box Fault" on the computer.

The Engine light is yellow. The transmision do not work well so I can not use it...

Any ideas ??? Of course I will call the dealer but I would love to know if someone had the same problem...

Thanks,

John
