The after market wood kit covers the black plastic of the center counsol just above your ash try . The kit also includes covering the black plastic surround on the center, left and right dash vents, armrest power window control panels and several other locations. The kit is a factory match birds eye maple veneer which costs about $215 (parts only) for your auto version. Jenkins sold an X with the wood kit to someone in the Brookfield area but I have yet to contact them to look at the kit installed. The kits are availble in the net (exoticwooddash.com) Jenkins will give you a price to furnish and install the kit. Because I have a manual tranny I will end up buying the factory wood veneer for the ash try lid and auto counsol surround along with the after market kit for the best true to factory wood dash look. The after market wood kits a flat and do not mold around the curves of the plastic dash. My understanding is the adhesive used in the kits makes this installation permament and any attempt to remove it would make the existing black plastic discolored or damaged. Serch Jagtalk archives they have pictures of the kit installed.
Our X has X1, X3, Prem, and Auto. I wanted the Xenon and Nav, but they didn't have any cars on the lot with those options. I've heard the Nav system is awesome, but the salesman actually tried to talk it down, probably because they didn't have any cars on the lot that had it. I think Jenkins has the best prices, though, as you mentioned. I have only seen one other X outside of the dealership and that was a black one parked on the south side. Even though they are a little expensive, I think the car is worth the money, and I think they will sell a lot more as more people find out about them. By the way, what is the after market wood kit? They already have wood on the dash and doors.
We have a Emerald Green X1, X3, Manual, Prem. Sound & Xenon that was purchased from Jenkins. I would highly recommend Jenkins for the best price and service based on our purchase. The car has been a joy to drive without any problems. The recent snow also proved its awd traction is ideal for this midwest weather. Tire pressure was with in range on our vehical. Ride is firm yet comfortable based on the tire pressure we are using. We are looking at adding the after market wood kit, front & rear seat covers (kids) and 17" wheels/tires this spring. Has anyone found an after market source for seat covers that fit the X with the side air bags? Jaguars' are expensive!
