That little yellow spec of light is actually a fairly bright LED which is intended to shine down and illuminate the console area at night. Comes on when the headlights are on. Gives just enough illumination so you can see the gearshift, handbrake, cupholder, etc. A nice touch. The same concept as those small keychain LED lights you see advertised everywhere. (If you doubt me, put your finger over the LED at night and see how dark the console gets....)
