Not that it matters, but BMW's house brand is made by Castrol. I suppose they might have more than one supplier though.

Manuals always say to go too far between oil changes. We plan on changing the oil every 3000 miles or 5000 if we switch to a synthetic. In fact, the car was delivered with an oil change sticker from the dealer that said 3000 miles.

BMW pays for schedualed(sp?) services too. I go in between like most owner's do and cahnge the oil. Mobil 1 is one of the suppliers of BMW's Synthetic oil...all new Bimmers come with it from the factory. I just buy my own at BJ's and the dealer charges me $30 for a filter and oil change. My Lexus dealer does a similar thing.

I'll wait until the first 5,000 miles and then switch to Mobil 1.

I use Mobil 1 in all my other cars. Even my XJR came with Mobil 1 from the factory. I even use Mobil 1 ATF and MTF.

I can't find anything saying my new 3.0 will have Mobil 1 in it. Does anyone know? Has anyone switched?

Thnks!

Joe

Its not Mobil 1, and since they pay for the oil changes at 10,000 miles, I'm pretty sure it won't be Mobil 1 then, either.

My Corvette requires Mobil 1 (cooling properties) and I change it every 5,000 miles or so. The book says 10,000 miles (or one year), but the computer says earlier.

I'm very concerned about letting the X-type go all the way to 10,000, but what's the choice? Haven't read a lot on this one way or the other.

I still have a ways to go.
