Mike
Let me see if I get your 'logic'. C&D generates new road-test numbers as part of its sports sedan comparison, using a different car then they used to get the first numbers. These numbers do not match (apparently the new X was even slower then the first car they tested), and somehow that means we can no longer trust the integrity of C&D? Interesting.
Now the earlier (June 2001) C&D article you mentioned does not tear the X apart (it’s a PREVIEW article), but it does say this, "Only a comparison test will determine exactly how well the X-type stacks up with the existing compact-luxury-sedan cadre". Well they just did that comparison this month and the X-type placed 5th. So maybe the X-type is a great car if you live in a vacuum, but it hardly is a standout against the BMW, Lexus, or the Audi. Anyone who says they sold their BMW 3-series for an X-type obviously was not looking for a performance car.
What I see here is a trend of attacking the sources of these negative X-type reviews. Apparently, everyone is wrong except you guys…
