You know what else? I had a US Contour for almost 4 years, and it was a VERY well handling car. Given that it is a strengthened 2nd gen incarnation of the same platform, I had full confidence that it is a solid platform. Not only that, but in those 4 years, I never, ever, had a problem with ANY part of the car. I can definitely tell the difference between my Contour and the X-Type, but the Mondeo naysayers should know that it is a very very good platform.

The x type uses a MODIFIED mondeo floorpan. It is modified by 30% to make it stronger. This meant that the x type could be sold for at least £10,000 less. All manufacturers use parts common across the range. Seat uses the Audi tt engine in it,s Cupra in europe for example.
