I am getting a 3.0 and want a phone that will intergrate with the car but not at the dealer price. Does anyone know if any kit or phone will work?

I am sorry to say that as a JAG technician, there is NO phone that will work with the currrent system on an X-type! Reason being...the audio system is the brain of all the telematics, and it uses fiber-optic communication. If you want a phone that will work with the system (IE:handsfree/compatibility), you will have to shell out the bucks!

I shelled out the bucks for the phone in my 3.0 but I am disappointed. Half the time the car refuses to recognize that a phone system is fitted. Once this happens you have shut it off for at least 30 minutes and sometimes hours. The dealer has changed a "module" but that didn't work. It appears to be software related. If the various modules do not handshake correctly over the data bus, the phone system locks up.

Also, the speed-dial screens are not user friendly. For example, once the car is in motion you are blocked from quickly jumping to and scrolling through a list of names. Instead you have to remember which one of the ninety-nine memory locations the number is stored in and enter it - this requires far too much concentration away from the road and is not a safe way of making a call.
