As an owner of a Jaguar XJR, I was invited to a ride and drive of the X Type...I also participated in a BMW ride and drive.
Edmunds was correct in the manufactures sway ride and drives in there favor.

While in for a blown tranny, my Jag dealer gave me a 3.0 X Type for two weeks. It had the sports package and auto...I beat the hell out of it for a week and the auto does SUCK! So does the 4 Wheel traction/drive or what ever it is called. It didn't realize it was torque steer, but now it makes sense. You just can't band aide a poor design(FORD Mondeo) with Jaguar badages. The engine was smooth(not as smooth as BMW 3.0 or Audi's 3.0), the auto was horrible...I don't know if it's FORD or ZF...but the calibrations and or computer can't keep up...same with the X drive...in Audi...they start with front drive like the X Type and transfer power to the rear, but Audi's front drive is so good to start, were as Jag starts with Fords front drive.

The rumor mill is that since Jac Nassar is gone, Ford is considering selling Jaguar, Volvo, and Aston Martin to recoupe it's lost money(Ford is $289 million in the hole)...Maybe some rich Brits will buy Jaguar back and restore some if its lost pride and substance.

Oh, after one week, my loaner 3.0 X Type died on me, I am on my 2nd now and the dash quivers like a wet dog.

Just one Jaguar owner's opinion....
