I've just had a Nokia CarKit installed in my X-Type. I purchased a leather
console for the installer to use and the installation is tidy. Two problems
arose:
1. The installer claimed he could not install a roof mount aerial as the
headliner made it difficult for him to reach the mounting point without possible
damage to the trim, having opted for the glass mount aerial he then found he was
unable to mount the aerial on the back window as the heater wires in the glass
reach right to the top of the window, mounting the cellphone aerial coupler over
these wires resulted in very poor radio reception on LW & FM. So I now have the
aerial mounted on the front screen top corner passenger side.
2. The installer claimed that he could not connect a cellphone mute so that the
radio muted when calls came in or were made as the type of audio system
precluded this being as it was designed for a Jaguar Cellphone fitment only.Has anyone else had a carkit installed where the mute worked? I had hoped that
maybe it could have been integrated better but now I have a dedicated speaker
for the carkit mounted on the lower kickpanel passenger side. What have others
done in this respect?
I had the same problem with a Honda Accord. The factory installed Honda/Bose (I suspect this one is an Alpine too) head unit has no input. But the installer worked around this by installing a relay on the switched 12V lead. The result is that the radio does not mute but turns off.
