Doc, you had some of the same observations as I had when first looking over my X. The floor mats are pretty flimsy and small compared to what I am used to. The driver's mat doesn't even have a heal pad to save wear. I wish I could find better quality mats. I also noticed how fragile the gas filler door is and that it is made of plastic. I suppose I shouldn't have been too surprised since my '98 Lexus LS400 also had a plastic door. The only car I have had recently that used metal for that part was a BMW 3 series. What has bothered me most is the armrest and bin lids on the console. Mine are being replaced because they are extremely loose and constantly squeak. All that being said, I also really enjoy my car and in no way disappointed in my choice. Good luck with your winter tires and let us know how well your car takes to the snow & ice.

Pickied up my Titanium 3.0 sport last week. Nice. Noticed it has lots of Ford parts, which is neither a good nor bad thing, I suppose. Second day out, when filling the gas tank, I brushed up against the fuel filler door (lightly!) and it snapped right off at the arm! On closer inspection, it is made of very cheap plastic. Beware! Car was also ordered without stereo upgrade (1600 option in Canada), and when I asked to install 6-disk changer, was quoted $1100!!!! Live and learn... should have ordered the stereo upgrade.
Have noticed several attempts at cost savings in the car.... note the floor mats.... the passenger side has a small cut out for the fuel filler door lever, I assume for the UK market... etc., etc.... not complaining, as I like the car very much....
Ordered Borbet wheels with Blizzak winter tires through Tire Rack.... paid $2000 all in.... whereas I was quoted $1300 (BEFORE tax) JUST for the tires at Jag. dealership...
