Thanks Joan and Mark. I see that the pre-wire system is unique to Jag, rather than an industry standard. At $750, I will probably go with the Jag changer. Other units that work through the radio can't take advantage of the controls in the dash or the steering wheel, and will need a separate controller.

I'm taking delivery of my x-type tommorrow , also without a CD player. But I just spoke to a car audio installer and he assured me that my Pioneer CD unit will work. He said they wire it through the antenna system rather than through the Jaguar fiber optic harness. Hope this helps.

I took delivery of my Jag about a month ago and I am disappointed that I did not order the CD player. According to my salesperson, the CD system is a fiber optic system and will not work with an ordinary off the self player. I will have it installed at the dealer at a cost of $750.00.

Has anyone found a CD player for the X-type as an alterbnative to the $1250 unit offered by Jag?
