I believe the authorities in some European countries have concluded that the bonnet cat is a bit painful if the car hits pedestrians and thus forbidden. In the US that's not a problem as there are no pedestrians.

You can get a leaping cat bonnet ornament from various sources, there are a number of dealers in e.g. Germany and some people have installed the US version. For example the ornament from Arden (www.arden.de) has a TUV approval (the local authority) and there's a spring mechanism so that it kind of pops out in a collision.

I have the Arden cat installed on my S-Type and it's definetly worth it, installed by the local Jaguar dealer. I don't expect any problems when the car is to be inspected next time.
