CHF means swiss francs. I was told that the cassette playyer can be replaced and the price list I have from the Swiss dealer is listing the single CD/MD as a option. The X-Type is normally equiped with a custome made Alpine stereo system (correct me if I'm wrong. The CD change is by the way the same as Merc is using for the new C-Class. You might want to check with your dealer if you can have the CD/MD option ordered already now!

Your last sentence refers to the possible replacement of the "stupid cassette player" for a "single CD....CHF 290 (whatever that stands for). My question to you is: would this apply to us in the United States? If so, what cost,if any, might there be. It simply boggles my mind to think that the Brits are so out of tune with what is popular in the U.S. The cassette bit is, in my humble opinion, the technological equivalent of the Brits giving us a Beta format videotape at the very time most people are using the VHS format! What were they thinking? My answer: they (Brits) obviously were not thinking!

Heres another point I forgot to ask about. Your last sentence says "in exchange for the stupid cassette player". Your referred to "as of Feburary next year". I should have my car by Dec or Jan '02 at the latest. Does that mean I can exchange my AM/FM CASSETTE radio for one with a Single CD player?........OR does that mean that I am s**t out of luck??? If Jaguar WILL replace that cassette setup....will it be done at no cost to me? (Fat chance IHMHO).
