The v-6 engine in an S-type and x-type are just Ford Duratec engines except they have been outfitted with a little more technology such as variable valve timing and electronic throttle control. If you want to get a good idea of how well this type of engine holds up with respect to high milage just look at a Tarus or Mercury Sable with the 24V DOHC engine and this should give you an accurate depiction of the its ability to last. Personally I do not think that this engine is up to par with it's German and Japanese competitors or Jaguar V-8 engines. Maybe the next generation x-type will be a better competitor to the German offerings.

I am thinking about getting an X-Type(99% sure). I understand that the engine in the X-Type is simulare to the that in the S-Type. My question is is their anyone with an S-Type with high mileage, or at least 50 - 100K miles? How does the car perform once it is out of the warranty period? Are the 10K servies really $300.

In the first 2 months I will put 6-8 miles on the car. And I am also one of those guys who likes to keep there car for 10 years (I don't like shopping:))

I also do not want to buy a car from Japan. The cars have something mission, my opion. I want the best Euro car that I can afford. I am hoping that Jaguar is it.
