Are you refering to the brand new 2002 model year S-type? A friend of mine just got one and it seems pretty nice. It has a really nice GPS system with a nice female English voice (a nice feature if you don't crash when trying to read the map).
At any rate the car seemed nice to me, a bit large/heavy, but nice and smooth.

On a tangential note: Do you think Ford might have something to do with short-falls you refer to in the S-type and perhaps other new Jags? Just how much in any control does Ford have over Jag's design team?

More noise than 'Go'.

Dreadful auto-box.

Steering has a mind of its own around the straight ahead position (my wifes Astra is better).

Ergonomically a disaster(eyes off the road too long).

Fuel consumption is very bad compared to the competition.

Door seals hold enough water to wash the car again.

More road noise than my wifes ASTRA.

Messy underside design around the rear wheels.

Do the looks make up for these ?????, I think not.

Would the 'S' type be my next purchase ???
=Depends what they change in the next year.
