| Message: | | If the car still has it's original number plate (right side of engine compartment, just above the bonnet opening, you can compare the data there to the various car parts. The chassis number is stamped on the horizontal frame in front of the engine just above where the right front shock mounts. Some early cars also had the number on a small tag behind the rear license plate. The engine number is stamped on the right side of the block above the oil filter, and also stamped into the cylinder head on the vertical face in front of the front spark plug. If the head has been replaced at some point, it may have a number stamped on very back of the head, or no number at all. You may also want to contact the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust in the UK (Google it). For a nominal fee they can provide data on the original build spec (colors, options) for the car. Having this can help sell the car, especially if it is fairly original. You might want to post on the XKE lovers forum (www.jag-lovers.org) letting people know you are interested in selling the car as these folks are a pretty astute and fair minded group, and someone there is likely to be interested or will know someone who is. Having pictures available will help value the car as the condition of the body in terms of rust will have a HUGE impact on the value as it costs big bucks to do the body right. Also, originality and completeness will have a pretty big impact as well. Hope this helps.
