I'm just finishing an article on this Car Jaguar XkSS #XKSS713 (nee XKD569) which now resides at the Petersen Auto Museum in LA. The car left the factory in Cream (White) with Red Hydes. McQueen purchased the car from James Petersen (no relation) although Bill Leydon a radio/tv personality had some connection. McQueen had just started filming the tv show as witnessed by Steve's tinkering on set in costume. The other new images shown here and in the Jaguar Magazine article are not the car Steve owned and Loved. His car had polished aluminum Dunlop wheels and Tony Nancy had modifidied and reragged the interior when Steve settled on the British Racing Green that adorns it today. After his death in 1980, the car was sold at auction for $157,000 to Richard Freshman, a neighbor and friend.Freshman sent the car to Lynx Engineering in St. Leonard's on Sea to be reconditioned. He later donated to the Petersen.
