| Message: | I have driven Ferraris, several over the decades, and although I have always enjoyed them immensely and found them very visceral, driver's machines, none would ever have been my choice for a cross country road trip. My current XKR CAN outcorner several of the previous versions of the Ferrari, tho' certainly not the latest models, but it can come very close. It would take a very, very, well driven Ferrari to leave me behind on a twisty road, and would require speeds and cornering forces so high as to be foolhardy on anything but a closed circuit. Not only that, but such a contest would be way beyond what any passenger would ever endure. So what is the point? The Jag is easily capable of both longitudinal and lateral speeds well in excess of sanity. If the goal were simply to make the XK as fast as possible, we have seen Rocket Sports achieve that and with very impressive results. My goal is only to refine and enhance the existing platform, drivetrain, etc., to reach its full potential as it is essentially delivered from the factory. No full engine teardown and race prep rebuild, no major modifications, just tweaking and massaging the existing machine with a few external mods and attention paid to detailing some production parts to maximize their potential. The essence of the goal is to make the machine as efficient as possible within its existing design. Note that a side benefit of this effort has been a continuing increase in fuel efficiency/mpg. A full bore performance car such as a Lambo or Ferrari sacrifices this aspect without consideration. Fine for short drives, but a GTO road trip car? Never. Even if cost is not a consideration, (and that with fuel prices soon to be returning to over $3 a gallon), lack of range on a tank of fuel is still a factor. | ||||
