| Message: | | Look, I'm new to Jaguars (I have a '01 XK8), but I believe your transmission is the ZF tranny that's used in my previous Audi A8 4.2 Quattro. My '98 A8 had all sorts of transmission "gremlins" (an awesome car, but too many expensive repairs for only 75k miles). Here are some of the problems I had: 1) at cruising speeds transmission torque converter would lock and unlock during coasting, causing jerking; 2) reverse gear would sometimes delay shifting, then jerk into gear with a thud; 3) once in a while, reverse gear would NOT engage completely, which means no thrust if your parked nose-down; 4) when agressively starting from stop, the transmission would hesitate (like it was deciding what gear to use). Ultimately, I was faced with buying a transmission or taking a beating on a trade-in. I traded in my A8 for the XK8 convertible (lovely machine!). By the way, the ZF transmission CAN be reprogrammed thru the OBDII port to activate performance shifting patterns. Hope this info was helpful, and good luck to you!
